Sara & André’s artistic practice exists when they appropriate the work of other artists, while seeking for a validation of their own practice by the artistic community. They present themselves by using the work of other artist either through collaborations, commissions, or loans; or through the referenced use of images, texts, or names of the monolith of the local artistic community or those already inscribed in Art History.
In the validation process, Sara & André confirm and make their practice and the work of other artists legitimate to the artistic community and in the general public. They create a form of visual archive capable of producing a library that is in agreement with their peers believes and ideas, and according to contemporary standards and good practices.
Curated by Rui Gonçalves Cepeda for VASA Project, WDWGN! is a series of online exhibitions that is built around the idea of the body as a subject and how it stands in a shared space; and how the authority of “geography” can be a battleground between distinctive contemporary ideologies and contested conceptual territories.
Through WDWGN! VASA Project has shown the works of preeminent and already in the history of photography photographers and artists. Including Délio Jasse, Jane and Louise Wilson, Adam Chodzko, Cristina Lucas, Rosangela Rennó, Kimiko Yoshida, Tatiana Macedo, and Wang Ningde. Crossing a broad geographical area with this series of online exhibits Rui has contributed to the global conversation about the human condition and the stories of places where people come together in a relational manner.
